im wanting to install a inch and quarter reciever hitch coming out of my plastic front bumper for a winch i want to stay high on the bumber for ground clearance has anyone done this and have pic i have a 94 u42 mits thanx
Front Mits receiver hitch After much head scratching, I plan on attaching to the 2 bolts each side where the front suspension mates with the uniframe. I figure this is better than welding inplace like I did for the rear one. Reason being: what if I have to do some major work up front? I don't want to get to a point of having to torch out the mount. I also think I'll add a member back to the engine k-member where there are some holes to bolt in to. I also want to avoid the hoses and wires nestled up right behind the bumber area, so I will be close, but beneath them. I have mounted the hitch receiver now. I'll try to figure out how to do some pix. Bill
I'm probably going to be modifying my front receiver this summer to be a little higher up. Keep in mind though, ground clearance is dictated by the lowest part of your truck, and the front pumpkin is the lowest point. When I was a little surprised by how low my front receiver was sitting I got down and looked at it in comparison to the pumpkin and it's actually 1/2" or so higher than the pumpkin... so I didn't end up losing any clearance. The approach angle isn't the same as it was but the overall clearance didn't get impacted by how low the receiver ends up sitting. Oh, and something else, if you welded something on the truck to support the receiver there's no reason you couldn't just make that an attachment point that the receiver bolts to. That way you have the flexibility of welding behind wiring and tubing at a place where you know it's solid but you can still pull the thing off if you need to do work on the front of the truck. Just a thought...
Front receiver Stat I need a good front receiver fast for plowing snow for a DD51T. Ironraven I know you had one for sale a while ago. I was hoping that someone could work with me on price because where I live the shipping will cost as much as the part. I live in western Alaska with no roads so everything is flown in. Anyone that could help please contact me.
front receiver Call Derrik or Jammie at GR Imports parts dept. (www.grimports.com). I know they have made front 2" receiver hitches for a DD51T. I bought a couple of them in the past. They have to be wielded on. dan at www.woodysminitrucks.com
