My 1991 has developed a leak. Coming from somewhere up behind the thermostat housing. Can’t see exactly where it’s coming from. Stays dry while the truck is running but starts dripping after shut off. Any ideas??
weaping out of the waterpump ? did you do a timing belt, If not nows the time to do both waterpump and timingbelt.
Nothing coming out of weep hole in the bottom of the cover. That’s what has me puzzled. Timing belt is an unknown. Not sure if the yellow sticker on the frame is any indication or not.
As you turn off the engine the actual temperature goes up, and the air movement stops so the moisture stays there. So, you see the leak. You can buy pressure checking systems on Amazon, eBay, or any auto parts store search for “radiator pressure tester”. Or if you have an old radiator cap you can make your own. Putting five pounds of pressure on the cooling system makes it lots easier to pick out where the leak is from.
Just going to tear it down. Not sure about timing belt and valve cover gasket leaking anyway. Might as well do it right so I won’t have to worry about it anymore.
All fixed. Turned out to be thermostat housing gasket. Timing belt, tensioner and all were in great shape so I left well enough alone. Now I have leftover timing belt, water pump etc. Got the whole kit just in case. Anyone who needs them PM me. Won’t be using.
They usually do look good until the day they pop. I would keep it and change it for added piece of mind, but that's just me.
