I have a 1983 sanfu it has a 544cc and the coil went out and I changed and now it burns out the #2 plug after a few minutes and it looses spark on the cylinder.

did the old coil have a condenser ? if it did and the new one doesn't that would be the problem..check your points as well inside the distributor

is the plug fouling causing it to fail?

Well it starts backfiring and if you hook up a timing light it stops flash the one that just slips over the wire.and if you change the plug it rins fine again for like 15 minutes the it backfires and stuff.

You didn't answer this question. The coil may not be the problem.
The plug may be oil fouling. Pull the plug and take a pic for us.
