I recently found ANOTHER street legal Daihatsu Hijet and have decided to entertain offers for one of them. Everything works. Left hand drive. 660cc, 2wd, transmission high-gear lock out as been removed as well as speed limiter. This Hijet is capable of 60mph+. 4 speed transmission is flawless. Less than 6000 original miles... comes with plates, reg'd with pink slip. 50 state legal... drive it anywhere.
I am thinking $15,000 obo. Ultra low mileage... able to be registered in any state. Here's a rare chance to own a street legal Hijet in very new condition. Just recently passed California Smog emissions testing.
GB, very nice truck indeed. Problem is, most people here on this site already have a truck, most are 4x4. Fifteen grand is a lot of bucks to spend on a vehicle any used vehicle, especially one that is almost 15 years old. I am not saying your truck is not worth it, but to spend that much money it would have to have more use than that of a novelty vehicle. You might try Craigslist or Ebay and see how that goes. Better have a reserve if using Ebay.
I have to agree with Greg. It's a very clean truck to be sure, but at $15K it's simply priced out of the market. I'd personally like having a U.S. Vin fully legal LHD mini to thumb my nose at TXDOT with, for about 1/3 the price. Something would have to be done to have a proper speedometer installed in place of that 30 mph version.
I bought 2 U.S.A. marketed Daihatsu 1992, 17 diget vin. #, models out in Caif. over the last year and a half. Compliments of the forest services. Paid price under 2000.0 for one and under 1000.00 for the other. One had 7000 miles the other had 12000 miles. Drove from Texas to Calif. and back to pick them up. Cleaned and serviced them. (one was as clean as this one ) retailed them 3500.00 and 4000.00, my buyers were happy and I was happy.
Steven, I don't know if you noticed or not, but those post's are from 2008! Gumball, was last seen on here in 2011. Limestone
His truck was a grounds vehicle that was always in the states since new, hence 25 MPH LHD. Many of them were snuck through loopholes and allowed to register
What bothers me, is that those left hand drive, speed limited, grounds vehicles, with the full vin number, were the basis for many states banning Japanese Mini trucks from licensure, because they really were “Off-Road vehicles” not designed for on highway use. Now its twenty plus years later, and we are trying to import federally exempted trucks from japan, which under most States classic and collector category could be licensed and titled, except many states have codes written in the 1980s to explicitly prohibit Japanese mini trucks from being licensed and titled. Idaho will let folks titles and register the vans, because they aren’t explicitly excluded. But, won’t let me title and register my Hijet truck, because it is a Japanese mini truck.
Haha, I wondered why he was saying it was 15 years old when it was really 25 yo.. That is a clean machine though. Holy thread resurrection! and the right time of year for it!
