Has anyone looked at a 1 litre 3cyl. Swift (Sprint/Firefly) motor and compaired it physically to the Suzi 660s to see if it is possible to run that FWD block in a Carry yet? Would be a great way to pump up the torque, or go for broke with the turbo motor and really have some fun. Jon.
it's not just the adapter plate... it's the fact that the stock motors basicly lay on their side. you need to address the oil return from the head and the oil pick up inside the oil pan.
That's what I mean, if the blocks are almost identical and all you need to do is transfer the pan, pickup and whatnot from the 660 then it would be worth it. If you need adaptor plates and a whole lot of BS then it's not really a worthy swap. I though someone somewhere put a 660 turbo Cappachino motor in one of these (can't find the link I read about 6 months ago). If they had to turn that motor on it's side then a 1 litre motor from a Sprint can't be that difficult. Jon.
The Cappuccino engine is the same block as the Carry as far as I know, so other than turbo gear it's the same. In New Zealand I had a Super Carry van, which is the same as the Every. The engine was a 4 cylinder 1000cc the same as what was in the old SJ410's sold in Canada and the US, except that it was laid over as far as the 660 engine is in the Carry. The only differences from an SJ 410 setup that I remember were the oil pan, intake manifold and oil pickup. As well, I have a 1980 LJ80 (predecessor to the SJ series). It has an 800 cc 4 cylinder engine, that was the same block as the 1000 cc SJ410 engine. It is however, tilted over about 30 degrees, whereas the SJ block is vertical. Again, the only differences are the oil pan, and oil pickup. The intake manifolds were interchangeable (allowing the bigger carb and manifold from the SJ to be put on the smaller engine). I haven't been able to look, but possibly the SJ engine may bolt directly to the 660 tranny. Don't know if this will help, but at least it's worth a look.
1.0 motor has nothing in common with 660 motor , ( i have owned a few) better bet would be the turbo motor out of Suzuki jimmy . I've also read the Mitsubishi builds the motor.
you can get the super carry with either 1.0,1.3 or even 1.6l engines all cantered like the 660 if you can find on of them then there you go 1000cc +
