I did it with a Jimny so I selected SUV. However, I would register it as a car.. Back when I had my Suzuki Carry in NY ( sold in 2018 IIRC ) it was titled in NY as an LT pickup, but the insurance identified it as a Suzuki Swift 3 seater.
I would register it as a car, but with the 770 lbs carrying capacity added to the unlaiden weight, so it will be in the range of 2,270 lbs.. You should be able to take that as a Vermont registration to NY and fly under the radar
Thanks for responding, I already mailed it in as model DD51t/Car & body type as pickup but I increased the unladen weight to 2000 lbs & loaded to 3000 lbs. keeping my fingers crossed
I want to try getting one of the trucks one size bigger than Kei as they should be good to go. But, I have to wait until prices normalize. Stuff was getting really cheap before Covid and now it's high again
Toyota Liteace, Mazda Bongo, Mitsubishi Canter, Izuzu ELF ect... They go from trucks the size of a Ford Ranger, to 2 ton trucks the size of a 3/4 ton truck, just with a 12' fold down bed. It depends on what you want. But they should fall through the cracks. There is no law actually written. They are using a clause at will to block trucks, but as of right now only blocking Kei trucks.
