Can we get some more activity on here. I’m seeing less than 3 posts per day. Feels very much like a dead or dying forum. Heck, we have people answering 1 year old threads.
I think it's a symptom of how reliable these trucks are once you get past the maintenance required on first purchase.
Sadly old-school forums like this one are not as popular as before. Its still a gold mine filled with useful information, but we must face it there is more activity on Facebook these days.
Agree with all above. My VW forum sees a lot more action because the vehicles are so much older and there are far more owners out there. However, many of us old schoolers are getting long in the tooth and the newbies seem to prefer social media platforms, despite their serious limitations. What bothers me the most is these forums are open to anyone with Internet and a device capable of accessing it, while FB is a proprietary platform, basically a product, that you are forced to use if you want to participate. It's a product I don't care to support so I'm denied the connections and information that are exclusive to that group. It's a shame because there is local FB group in my small area and I'm sure I'm missing out. If they used this forum as well it would be more inclusive.
Mine is sitting on a dock with it's thumb up trying to catch a ride, but I've just been reading. Thing is that so far, I've found the answer to a lot of my questions by clicking around and reading. So no need to ask a question I found the answer to by reading. It really is a credit to older members/mods here because there is a lot of info here and it's pretty well organized.
Same here. Waiting for mine to be shipped. Been reading the forum and getting up to speed. Hopefully another month or so and I will post a few pictures.
Yeah, I just joined here and several other car forums the past few months... I'm an old fart (relative to the internet), and I can't stand facebook, and really only use reddit out of necessity (when there are no other options), but those kind of sites are definitely pushing old school forums out. It's a shame to me. I think classic forums hit the balance of specificity to your interest and communal sense just right. Whereas Reddit just feels like a broken discussion with no sense of community and facebook feels like it's feasting on all your personal info and fails to sufficiently segregate various elements of your life.
Im totally against antisocial media and anything that is sold as the solution or else. Love old forums with enthusiast leaving their traces of wisdom to help others. Never had Fakebook, always avoided Google and never used Amazon to buy the parasites more power and the only big earners during their sponsored spamdemics The only high tech thing my wired computer from Odroid does is to use Presearch for searching privately and that earns decentralized crypto not centralized digital money. I have a Mitsubishi minicab van, daihatsu hijet van and truck all carburetor models no high tech here and also a house phone no personal spy tracking device with phone app built in.
I love vBulletin forums whether it was talking cars or Manga. The interaction was always great and discussions got somewhere. I'm really hoping there's more activity as the early 2000 kei truck models start getting imported.
FNG here. My truck is literally halfway around the world in a Ro-Ro heading for Freeport TX. Vehicle forums have been an important part of my life for the last 30 years, especially in my poison of choice, RX-7. I really like this forum. It's doing great given the relatively recent and tiny membership here in the US. Time is our ally. The transition to social media discussions are a mirror image of the discussions from when email-based Digests were replaced by Forums. Somehow I don't think social media will do that same, especially once FB finally get a viable competitor. I think it will diffuse the information (not unlike the multiple forums for a given topic). Till then, the shift to FB I think is inevitable. But we can persist and continue to grow this knowledge base regardless. FIGHT THE GOOD FORUM FIGHT!
Welcome to the forum and also to a another RX-7 owner. If you have been on rx7club.com at all in the 1st gen section, my id is the same as on here. You will find many similarities in the way the brakes, fuel, and ignition are setup on these trucks with the carbureted RX-7 (series 1,2,3) 1st gens.
Very Very much appreciate the response Mr Farrell?). I recall crossing your upon you name on the other forum. However, you touched on one of my biggest risks with this truck: carburation. This will be the first carburated vehicle I've owned. I'm a wiz at EFI, including programming/mapping several standalone ECUs, but the carb will be a witcher brew of learning for me. If only I could have waited till the '98 model year, I could have had a FI'ed Acty. But alas, impatience is "Murphy's" handmaiden!
I'm also waiting for my truck to ship. Maybe I'll see it in October. In the meantime, trying to learn as much about maintenance as I can.
