Hello - looking to upgrade my stock SDX wheels to something nicer. Currently, I have no lift on the ACTY and don’t plan to add one unless necessary for the wheel upgrade. I see a lot of posts, but it’s tough to tell what will fit and what won’t.

Can someone tell me if they think these tires would fit? They’re 13” wheels with 185/70/R13 tires on them. Thanks in advance!

Here's a few links that will show you the difference between what you want and stock. My guess is that what you want will fit with the numbers you have provided. What I've seen digging around is that the offset is an important thing to know before you buy wheels. I think I've read that the clearance around the circumference is around 22 inches.

important are these factors . check original wheels, hub etc, then search
    Hub center diametre .... mm
Number of bolts: 4 or 5
    Pattern: ... mm
    Offset (ET): ..mm
The offset is the distance from the hub mounting surface to the centerline of the wheel. Wrong offset = bad handling.
You have to maintains the overall diameter of the tire within -3 to +2 percent. It is crucial to preserving the speedometer reading and gear ratio. Check this website for speedometor error with different tire sizes. http://www.powerdog.com/tiresize.cgi

No !! they will not they will rub every where that tire is 23.7 "
I bought W&Ts 14x6 -12et & 185/55R14 & had to put HD springs up front and still notice a barely rub at full turning
just scrapping the mud flaps plus not knowing your offset those wide tires might hit your springs
    Regards

    Hello Brian,

You’re correct on the size I originally posted about, definitely too big.

I ended up ordering tire size of 165/65R14 and got 14” x 5.5” OEM 1999 Civic HX rims. From everything I’ve read, this size should fit no problem. Offset is 40mm and lug pattern 4x100.

based off your reply, it seems you’d almost think this size is too big too??

Getting installed this weekend so hoping there is no rubbing as I have been reading.

    Hello there coffeemaker,

Do they rub 1) on the springs due to width or 2) in the wheel well/mud flaps due to circumference?

The tires slightly rub the top of the right mud flap near the limit of compression travel. They might also rub on the left side if I had a passenger there. They do not touch any of the suspension components.

Interesting, this post with same size tires as mine (10mm less wide than yours) reported no rubbing anywhere and the Acty is still stock height. Wonder why there are deviations from Acty to Acty and the reporting on the rubbing experienced with same or very similar tire upgrades. This gets frustrating when people are trying to make decisions on what tire size to get, considering the feedback/results are all over the map.

    165/65R14 tires are 22.4" OD.

Why would 175/65R-14 be 23.1” if the difference is only the width?

It's more than just width. The 65 means the sidewall is 65% as tall as the tire section width (approx max width) is wide. So, a narrower section width creates a shorter sidewall height even when the ratio is the same.

    175 x .65 = 113.75 mm. 165 x .65 = 107.25. That's 6.5mm (~1/4") shorter radius.

Tire makers do deviate a little from the normal dimensions. The snow tires I bought have deeper tread, maybe making them a little larger than calcs would predict.
