Was reading posts and saw where some of you were talking about this. Hope this helps do not goto DMV go to a private business for tiltes and plates cost a few extra bucks but what I will save in fuel is worth it
Corey, I also live in IL your step father IS DRIVING WITH IL PLATES ON TRUCK NOW? For all us mini truckers in IL please keep us advised on whats going on.
Serious plates in IL I did get plates on my 1997 mitsu and so has my step father 1996 hijet we used certificate of origin and police inspection (local cop) and went to Eastern Illinois Title in Danville Il no questions asked and I have mine insured through my other vechile insurance company with liability only. and yesterday my brother in law got his plated
I've got to get a a bonded title which will cost a bit more but will be worth it in the end. I'm going through a license service here as well since I figured the DMV wouldn't be of any help. Good to see the state isn't completely communist...yet...
Plates in Illinois whats with the bonded title no C Of O ??? I had to wait on dealer to get the C of O from his importer about a month may be woth phone call
No certificate...I bought my privately and the guy I bought it from never got one and lost the number of the guy whom he bought it from. It sucks doing it this way but the end justifies the means....
Right on Good luck buddy We didnt have any problems doing it the way we did but DMV cant get heads outof *&###%
Foiled by beuracrats in IL Got letter last week had to surrender plates to state because they dont have a interpreter to translate japanese to english :frustration::frustration::frustration::frustration::frustration:starting to feel like this is not worth fighting with state over. Our lovely goverment ???? will try all routes before giving up its a principal thing now will do or will not only two ways of looking at this. They told me about the DOT inspection and the EPA inspection and now going to get C of O translated :frustration::frustration: OH well good luck to everyone else getting registered and I might even consider moving to a state with some sense. if you know what I mean
do all trucks come into the states with a Cert of origin? I called the guy I got mine from and never heard back from them. I need one for my state also.
I got a letter today basically saying the same thing requiring inspection, cert. of origin, blah, blah, blah. The letter called the truck a 'glorified golf cart' and the lady at the license service was quite amused by the letter and said I'd be 90 by the time I got all what they needed done. I'm not going to try anymore, the only reason I wanted plates is so I could take the truck into Canyonlands in Utah on an upcoming trip. At least I can get money back..
what title place which title place did you guys use near danville? i have a 91 mitis i would like to have licenced but havent had any luck doing so. also i need to get the cert of orign how do you go about that?
I think regardless of what you have, your not going to get in licensed in IL. The state does allow them on roads that are less than 25 mph and are classified as a 'neighborhood vehicle' or a golf cart. With the list I got from the state, it looks like it would take a good while to get through their requirements.
Call the manufacture in Japan and ask for one. I had to phone Honda and Daihatsu of Japan and talked to a few Japanese speaking people then was transferred to an English/japanese speaking person. I had them fax a copy to me. Remember Japan is about 14 hours ahead of us the next day (central time zone) so make the call in the evening.
