I have a 95 carry with the plain old AM radio, works fine just would like to know if the modulation can be changed to US Freqs? I see that most just change out to a AM/FM type but I don't need to get that fancy. Thanks
radios are not like televisions. there is no difference between frequencies. i use the same radio in america, germany, denmark, england, turkey, syria & iraq.
Milt, that is not correct. The japanese stations are spaced differently then North American stations, therefore you do not get very many on the japanese radio, or any at all in some cases. They sell frequency modulators on ebay. I think they are for FM though. All it does is shifts down the US frequencies to the jap frequencies. I think this is the device you need. http://cgi.ebay.com/JAPANESE-IMPORT...ts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item380103356781 Jeremy
that's odd... i've never been to japan, but the stock radio in my truck didn't have a problem picking up stations at all... i listened to it for a couple months before i upgraded.
If you have a manual tuner, you will be OK. (I think the Daihatsu had that) But if you have a digital tuner (Suzuki) it stops on odd frequencies. I think the japs are a 7MHZ step and we are a 10MHZ step or something like that (or Khz, i probably dont have the terminology correct). So, some stations will line up if you are lucky, otherwise you get close and have a bit of reception. Also, for FM they start lower than us (72 i think) and stop lower than us (89 I think) And they step different. So, you wouldnt get any station 89.9 and up, and anything below is a crapshoot at best. So those band expanders shift everything they pickup down 20mhz so that the jap tuner can hear it.
wow, i had a digital stereo and it ran the whole range of the am stations, i remember it went higher than american numbers and lower as well. and i remember it went in much smaller incriments too... but it worked for me... maybe i was just a lucky one.
I guess that is what I was trying to say, the radio will pick up stations, it is just off by a step or two. I suppose it's time for a new radio compared to the price of a modulator or a new one from Wally World. Oh Well!
Mine works great on 1170am. Fm stops where most Okie stations start so I leave it on am. Want to keep mine original if at all possible on everything.
Heh. I dont know if you get points for "original equipment" on these. Maybe if it was a 60's model. Lol.
