hi there, I would really appreciate some advice. We have just bought a sambar with a blown engine, a friend has a Subaru sumo 900cc engine he has offered us in the hope the engine will fit, it seems to a make sense that it should fit both being rear mounted and roughly same size etc. But from research it appears it is a different engine (taken from the justy). Does anyone know if this is possible and how complicated it might be?? Many thanks in advance
Also noticed front sunroof clip has come off, think 1 of the hinges might need replacing as it's been stuck in with mastic by looks of it. Will rear sunroof still bed ok to try to see if it works?? Too scared to give it a go!
Don't be discouraged by the lack of replies. Your inquiry may be something no one has tried before. I'm not familiar with either vehicle you are referring to so won't even attempt. Some can't check in here every day so you may still get something. Good luck. Fred
Fred you offer good advise- Hazel I would give it a go. I faced the same or similiar problem a year ago with a chinese Kazuma blown engine. I bought the Kazuma only to have a blown engine a year later. I bought the 660 cc engine from Japan to replace the 800 CC Chinese engine. It did take some rigging but doable . your biggest problem will be you tranny . If you can confirm hook up go for it.
the time and money plus frustration spent trying to make an adaptation of the 900cc engine to fit the area of the sambar engine, and adapt to tranny- uhm- just not worth it IMO. i know the costs are a factor, but either get your engine rebuilt (and you can do that yourself with rebuild kit off ebay or through mini-truck parts dealers on line, or have it rebuilt by a mini truck dealer). in the end the $500 to $2000 spent will be well worth it. gerald
I'm thinking about doing the same thing. Did you get the Justy engine in it? The Justy engine has about 50% more power and cost less than 1/4 the price of those tiny 660cc engines. Also, replacement parts are cheaper.
