I decided to change the headliner of my Daihatsu Hijet. When I got the truck, the glue from the headliner was coming loose around the edges and it looked generally kinda ratty. So I pulled off the old stuff, installed a layer of soundproofing, and used thin 1/16” kickboard to cover the ceiling. Kickboard is the stuff designed to use in a kitchen or bathroom between the floor and the bottom of the cabinets. I liked it because it’s made of natural wood, is thin, flexible, and easy to cut. It’s not cheap, but it looks really good. I sealed it with water-based, odorless polyurethane. The kickboard is held in place with a couple of 1/4” cross struts that tuck into the lip of the ceiling on either side of the cab. All in all I’m very happy with the result!
Thanks but, truthfully, it didn't take a ton of skill. Literally, the only tools were a tape measure, a hacksaw, a quick square and a pencil. Oh, and a router for the cross-strut edges, but that was optional. I just had to be patient, measure-twice-cut-once, take breaks when getting antsy, make it all look symmetrical. I just kept telling myself, "Make it look nice enough for the wife to approve." Happy wife//happy life.
Me too. I’m a newbie and found out about this forum from /r. We gotta help put out the word and get this place revived lol
/r is great for "what's going on at the moment," and with 25,000 members, it gets a lot of traffic and updates. But this forum is a pure gold mine for archived information about mini trucks.
