Suzuki, Daihatsu, Mazda are usually under the driver seat or on the metal beside it stamped in. Mitsubishis are under the passenger seat. Subarus are on the kick plate on the passenger side. Honda can be under the driver's seat or the same place as the Subarus. The newer trucks (99 and newer) sometimes have them on the inside where the driver's door latches

i know right where my VIN is, but the point i was making is that it doesn't even list the make of my truck, never mind where the VIN is...

    wacky vin

Ive got a 92 Sambar and the Vin is only about 8 or 9 characters. Can this be right, the only place I can find the id plate is on the passenger side by the left foot area.

That is what I was thinking.

What I need to find out is how to determine the yr..........after finding the VIN. Anybody know?

check the tags on your seat belts, it should have the mfg year on there, so it's usually that year or a bit newer.

hmmmmmmmn..........the tag had '93. I doubt it any newer than 94-95, surely doubtful to be 98-99. Oh well.

i may be mistaken, but i think seat belts have a "shelf life" to them and can only be installed within a certain time after manufacature. i know racing off road in the baja 500 /1000 races they checked the dates on them and when i was drag racing as well. i would bet vital parts of my anatomy that it's not 98 or 99 (look at a picture of my truck 99 is the new body style) and would probably place you more like 93-94

VIN decoder? huh! Just check this interesting fact:
Prior 1980 all vehicles in US were having a 17 digit VIN no. For identifying a model year people just check the eighth digit from right.

From 1980 to 2000 the VIN no. looks like
    A – 1980
    B – 1981
    C – 1982
    D – 1983
    E – 1984
    F – 1985
    G – 1986
    H – 1987
    I – not used
    J – 1988
    K – 1989
    L – 1990
    M – 1991
    N – 1992
    O – not used
    P – 1993
    Q – not used
    R – 1994
    S – 1995
    T – 1996
    U – not used
    V – 1997
    W – 1998
    X – 1999
    Y – 2000
    Z – not used.

    2000-2009
    1 – 2001
    2 – 2002
    3 – 2003
    4 – 2004
    5 – 2005
    6 – 2006
    7 – 2007
    8 – 2008
    9 – 2009

From 2010 VIN no. is again switched back to the digit representation

    A – 2010
    B – 2011
    C – 2012
    D – 2013

We just bought a Mitsubishi and would like to find the identifying numbers (VIN, year, model, etc). The only thing under the passenger seat is the engine information for mechanic reference. We believe it is a 1993.
