I've searched the forums and can't find any step by step procedure for adjusting the valves. My Hijet has 78k and runs great, starts first turn of the key cold or hot. It however sounds like a sewing machine with a tap tap tap tap. The manual shows the clearance of in .25mm and ex .30mm. . I'm new to these trucks and would appreciate the help. Thanks Adam
I'm pretty sure Daihatsu uses shims to adjust the valves. Pop the valve cover and take a look. You will need shims for the engine of varying clearances. I don't know where you would get these. -Greg
I have a 92 and adjusted the valves on the weekend. There is a rubber inspection plug you pull off the top of the bellhousing and there are 2 dots that line up with the zero degree mark. Line them up by using a 18 mm socket on the crankpulley turn the engine over by hand and have someone tell you when to stop with the first mark at zero. Set half the valves they are adjustble rocker style with a jam nut you loosten, and use a screw driver to adjust the valve with feeler gauge to adjust clearance re-tighten the jam nut and move on to the next one to set its clearance. Unsure of what the clearance should be on your motor depends on the engine series. I have more power now and alot quieter engine, mileage should have gone up also.
On my truck there set the same way you would do it on a motor bike. On motors like this it should be checked every 15,000-20,000k Take a look at this video that should help you youtube.com/watch?v=y5B1vZzDyh0
