Looking at yahoo auctions and found a nice deal on a fuel injected S/C EN07 with low mileage. Plan on buying it to swap it in my Carb 98. From everything I have seen and small talk with Subaru mechanics here, it as simple as plug and play as long as I find an ECU that is manual transmission originally. Has anyone done this? Subaru mechanic told me transmission is the same for the TT2 as the KS4.

The engine will bolt straight up to the transmission, but you need EVERYTHING else to support it. The fuel system is different, the cooling system is different, you will need the entire wiring harness along with all of the computers, sensors, and whatnots.. Piecemealing this is going to be extremely difficult and expensive. I would not even remotely consider it unless you had an entire donor vehicle to pick all of the parts from.

To be clear, your carbed model has no ECU. It basically has a half dozen wires to power the temperature switches which in turn turns on and off various solenoids. Everything else is vacuum controlled. There is nowhere to just "plug in" an ECU on your truck.

If yours was Supercharged to start with (which does have an ECU), you might be able to get by with just adding the wires needed for the additional sensors and the coil packs found on the 6th gen, as well as completely repinning the ECU.. but even then it would certainly not be "plug and play"

Just going over everything in my head, a lot of little things adding up fast… mine doesn’t have an ECU but they are going for like 50$ out here. Ur right, this would be a nightmare, rewiring the sambar is last on my list of things I want to do

Might take a look at Speeduino, Megasquirt, Ecotrons or Sniper, may find something there you can use. Lots of info out in the internet if you do some searching.
