The (3) Wire fuel Pumps

    Hello all.

I have poked around this forum and also read through several manuals I have and sadly I have not found any information to make sense of my 91 Carry's fuel pump. I will start tracing wires further into the cab but perhaps someone can save me that challenge.

The goal is to install an aftermarket two wire pump that functions SAFELY off the key. I have done this with many "older" vehicles so I can handle the concept of low flow / low pressure pumps and have a decent Holley regulator if needed.

Before I travel down that road, could someone tell me what the wires do, specifically that pesky Brown with Black. It seems other trucks have the Black (ground) and Black with white (hot) but the third wire is SPECIAL.

My pump still rattles, but only for about two seconds. It does this with no fuel (so no pressure build up) and also whether it is hot wired or off the key. MOST fuel pumps will run continuously when hot wired.

So, any help on this project?
And also, why do people report that they pump fuel into the sump with aftermarket pumps as these vehicles have floats and return lines?
Has anyone tried a line restrictor?

    thanks again,
    greasy side down

Just wondering what your reason is for changing from the factory setup. Is you truck not running? No fuel?
