Stuck trunk... - (1994 Honda Acty Street Van)

Hi everyone,
I need help and was wondering if anyone has any solution or has the same problem.
I have a 1994 Honda Acty Street van, and the trunk won’t open. It’s unlocked but it’s loose. Like the latch is stuck on the metal hook. I’m not sure if that makes any sense

I do not know the details on the van, but is it not possible to remove the cover inside from the trunk lid to get access to the lock system? Maybe there is even a cover for such emergency.

Thank you so much for replying. Although I did take out the cover to see the mechanism part of the lock. The trunk seem to be open because it’s loose. So while I’m driving. It rattles and vibrates. It seems like the lock is hooked to a metal part. It was already like this when I purchased it. Do you know if there’s any solutions?

 

Sounds like maybe a spring in the latch mechanism broke or let go! Where as the latch isn't catching on the 2nd notch, latch to lock it! Not familiar with that set up, is it possible to remove the latch from the inside, inspection plate(hole)? You would think that for safety reasons, that you would be able too!

The trunk is like really stuck. It won’t budge to open. I tried to shut it tighter cuz it’s loose, to see if it’ll actually lock in place, but still nothing. Still loose and all. Like something is holding it down. Some metal part is hooked on. It’s hard to see the latch while the trunk is closed. I’m about to give up on this

 

So, if it were me I would go inside, and have someone outside gently apply pressure to the door, while inside I would, with a screwdriver, long extendable magnet, and a light for peeking into the access hole, see what I could see, trying to release the part, that's holding it closed!

 

Again for safety reasons alone, it has to be able to open from the inside, one would think!!!

 

Yes, repair it. I assume from inside there is a cover clipped on which has to be removed to have access to the metal parts and lock system of the trunk door.

But my trunk really can’t open. I already went inside and took out the plastic cover to get to the latch, and i still can’t figure out why it’s stuck. I’m getting annoyed with it... Lol!

 

I believe the latch actuator is broken. It’s not functioning. I have to try and access it. But i’m afraid I have to damage part of my van to get a better access in order to open

 

In my opinion the only way to get to it, is from inside, you already removed the plastic cover, so remove as much as is possible from inside of the lock system to get the trunk door open.

 

Can you post some pictures of what you can see now? The actuator moves some kind of rods or cable which go to the actual latches. It could be as simple as a failed plastic clip which hold a rod in place.

Can you add the information on your truck in the signature field of your profile. It makes it easier for folks to give you a hand in troubleshooting problems.

also this is something you are going to need to address, because you need to have the trunk open to pop open the oil fill door.

 

I was having the opposite problem and my door wouldn't latch shut. I took the plastic panel inside the door off and found the rods that connect the handle and lock to the door latch. It's a tight squeeze back there, but if you can get your hands in you might be able to pull the rod connected to the latch up and get it open. https://honda.epc-data.com/acty_van/v-hh4/27895/body/24163/?p=9&fromMap=1 Part number 9 here is what you'll need to replace the old one. I took the door handle off to make it easier. There are 2 bolts to remove it I think, but it made it a little easier to get things connected. You may also need to spray WD-40 or PB Blaster through the door to loosen the latch.

let me know if u still need help getting trunk open. i had same problem and it is a PITA to get it open but it is possible without breaking anything. u will need to try to get the bumper off . getting to the screws is the hard part
