Just picked up a 1998 Mitsubishi mini cab with the 3G83 engine and it’s a 4x4 V-U42t model. The engine is stuck from sitting for about 3 years. I’m wondering if anyone has some suggestions for freeing it up without removing the head. I’ve tried rocking it back and forth but that won’t do it. Thanks for any ideas. (I could not figure out how to post my details about my truck on my profile)
If the engine is seized, it's a pretty good sign that the internals are (best case) corroded. If you can break it loose and run it immediately, there's a good chance that you will cause more damage that will require a full rebuild. You can pull the spark plugs and get a little oil in the cylinders to see if they move, but be careful. It may be worth the effort of pulling the head and the pistons, cleaning the whole thing out, and putting it back together with new gaskets. You'll end up with a happier engine, and you get new gaskets out of the deal.
Well it broke free finally and it runs impressively good but I’d say it’s definitely got a blown head gasket. (Radiator has lots of pressure and bubbling. It’s a 12 valve engine is there anything I need to watch out for or be careful about when replacing the head gasket? Thanks
