Haven't been on the forum in months, so it's nice to be back. Wish I had better news....

Really short on details, but here's what's going on.... Sold my immaculate yellow van (Twinkie) last March to Ed Daniels of BAMINITRUCKS. He had it for a couple months and then sold it to a mail carrier in Oklahoma.

Ed calls me a week ago and said the new owner drove the van for a month, and thinks it's motor is dying. Has no power and smokes real bad. There's only like 20,000 miles on it, I babied it the 4 years I had it, and it seemed to have gotten the same care in Japan. Seems really unlikely....

New owner took it to a shop, and the mechanic said it looked like it had heavy-weight gear oil in the crankcase (80wt??). I'm like WTF??? Nothing but Mobil 1 5w30 and Napa Gold filters while I had it.

I'm just scratching my head.... Any ideas? or anyone involved on the forum here??? It's killing me to think Twinkie is sick....

Welcome back andy! It sounds like to me someone didn't know what they were doing, whatever that may be. Its unlikly the viscosity of the oil increased to 80wt on its own.

id google up anything to do with oil phenomenons about oil getting thicker in the crank case and see what that shows. only other thing is that the dealer could have done that but no clue why he would.
