Broke the Clutch housing on the transmission trying to mate it back with the front of the Transmission. When I find a new clutch housing, is RTV OK to seal it up? Schematic shows no gasket.
Seems like most of my Japanese transmissions are mainly sealed with rtv. I’ve resealed with Toyota red FIPG with good success, though most rtv should make a good seal if rated for the fluid and temps.
Subaru uses Three Bond 1215 RTV pretty much everywhere, including transmission split cases, for their cars. It's good stuff. I'd go ahead and RTV it back together, just be careful, a little goes a long way and you dont want RTV boogers floating around
Thanks, I picked up some Permetex Transmission Sealer and email their customer service asking if it was good for sealing transmission cases and they concurred
So Today I installed the Engine and Trasmission as one unit. My buddy had the idea of positioning the engine and trans on his motorcycle lift and then lowered the Motorcycle lift until the mounting threaded Nuts aligned with its attachment point on the frame. Then we put it in mounting bolts and raised the hydraulic life above the motorcycle lift. Took us all of about 20 minutes to have it installed and bolted to the mounts. I purchased a bunch of OEM pre-formed water hose so I went about removing the old hoses and installing stainless steel screw type clamps. I made a few wire connections but still have a way to go getting the engine electrical harness all connected up. The clutch, accelerator and shifter cables also installed (I have new replacements but We just want to get the thing put together and make sure it still starts and runs. We removed the rear swing arms because we could not get the rear Axles out. Had new CV joints and boots installed at an axle shop but decided instead to use new OEM axles that happened to be available so I bought them and they are going in tomorrow time permitting.
