Hi folks, I hope all is well in minitruck land! I've been doing some maintenance on my '99 Hijet 4x4 tip/lift. Working through the suspension components, and trying to trace the source of clunking and some front slumping when on undulating roads. Changing out some pretty gnarly shocks seems to be the problem and I've managed to install a new one on the left side. However, I've managed to round out one of the three top strut mounts on the right side, and it's still stuck. Once I've managed to get it out, I'll need to replace it. Any idea whether there is a generic bolt that will do the trick? I can't be the first one to mess this up! It's a 12mm bolt. Are they an industry-wide standard thread? Any help gratefully received! Jonno
I would use a Class 10.4 bolt, 12mm x 1.25. The Class 10.4 is a very strong steel alloy. https://www.mcmaster.com/products/bolts/thread-size~m12/?s=jis+bolts
Hi jblueridge! Thanks for your reply. It's the nut dimensions I need, not the bolt. Apologies - I was still in mid-panic when I wrote my question :-D. I've order new top strut mounts from Japan, and I'm hoping it comes with new nuts. If I see any codes on the replacement nuts I'll drop their details on here. Jonno
You can look up Class 10.4 12mm JIS nuts on McMaster Carr website. Jis12 mm means a 17mm wrench is needed.
The best thing about McMaster Carr is you can find out what is actually made and sold out in the world. They also have useful info related to the item in question.
Hi all, I tracked down the nuts in the UK. The spec is 'M8 Hexagon Flange Nut (12mm A/F) - 303 Stainless Steel' and is also recommended for Kawasaki motorbikes. Product code is 303-FLN-M8-12AF and the website I found them on is: https://www.gwr-fasteners.co.uk/m8-hexagon-flange-nut--12mm-af---303-stainless-steel-59731-p.asp Hope that helps for anyone who's as clumsy as I am!
