I wanted a spare key for my beat up old HiJet. I searched various places and I decided to Google number on key. I found key number was used by Kubota. I got 3 cut keys, key ring and carabiner on Amazon for under $10 in 2 days. All keys fit and worked perfectly.
Good to know about Ace. I agree I could have chased around for keys, but this was a shot to see if they would work. Perfect fit and cheap. I also googled other key numbers for odd keys and found them online.
FYI, for later HiJets (like my 2001) it is a straight up Toyota key. When I got an extra made, it was the exact same blank as my old '89 Corolla.
The blank for a Toyota, was the some cross section but about 5/8-inch longer than the Daihatsu blank. So, a Toyota blank would work, but the key would end up hanging further out of the ignition.
