Gonna try to help out my friends wife, who's husband has passed, and was a very dear friend of mine, as we did a lot together, and made a lot of repairs, and fixed thing's together like it was nobody's business. She asked me what we could do as she would like to recoup the money he invested in the unit, but she understands, not his time, as I've explained. Pretty sure it's a 1989, as It's in my shop, and we haven't done anything to it since he got sick a few years ago. Dump bed/scissor lift! Left hand drive! I couldn't stand it sitting there any longer, but I kept my mouth shut, and she approached my wife and I when we visited her recently. He bought it from the same guy that I bought mine, after I got mine, and it could pass for it's twin, as it came from a nearby municipality, I think. Left hand drive, and needs to be finished as he was reworking everything, as one of the best mechanics I've ever worked with. Instead of sending it to Auction in the spring, I was telling her that we could try here first. It can be made available in the early spring, as April rolls around. Any interest please PM me and I can fill in the rest of the information. Gonna be bouncing around, as all PM's will be answered and addressed as I can, as a lot of family travel is in the works, and no one else will be able to show it for me, as she only trusts me with it! Many extras included! Located in Northern Ohio! Thanks, Limestone
I am in the process while the weather is still inclement here in Northern Ohio, making up a list, on the unit, as far as what was done and what might be needed to complete. Serious interest only! Thanks, Limestone
As the weather warms up, and the first day of Spring arrives, I will pursue other avenues if no one is interested here. I was really hoping to find an interested party here with the love for these hard to find, neat little units! The Forum has been good to me, and I thought that I would try to give back! Limestone
Kevin, I appreciate you're ask, and follow up, as I've had some interest for my late friend's Mini Truck, but IMO, no really serious buyers! A few tire kickers, as 5 had showed some conversational interest, and, mainly just possibly looking for a good deal, which we all want, and can understand! Don't misunderstand me, as it's a good deal with the countless hours put into it, and many things don't need to be gone over, as my old late friend was a master at doing things and making repairs! I realize we can't and won't put a price on sentimental value, as his wife entrusted me to do what I can for her, as even though she's trying to move forward, can't look at it, and really isn't up to talking about it. IMO! I'm really hoping that the right person, who's interested in completing this project, would pick it up, as if the right person comes along, a deal for sure would be made! You just know it when you're dealing with, and talking with the right person, on things! Call it experience, or a gut feeling, as all are correct, IMO!!! Limestone
Projects are hard to sell. Most dont have a means to aquire, space, tools, knowledge, ability or time to finish someone else’s vision. Is there a way you could finish it for her and take payment from the sale? There will be much larger pool for a finished project.
Quick Strike, I guess that you're right! In the old days, guy's would dive in head first and not too many things would stop them! I'm still old school as my old friend was! Today when you mention something to someone, in most cases I've noticed a reply, such as, "Let me check with my wife"! As nice as it is to stay informed, and having great communications, with you're spouse, times have changed, as so have people. With today's electronics, and such, there's a lot of choices out there, as there is hobbies and such. I get it! As we get older, our time gets limited into retirement, as most don't understand, retirement, at all, until one gets there and experiences it themselves! I have stayed in contact with my old friends only child, a lady who lives out of state and is doing very well for herself in the business world, and has helped her mom, my old friends wife move on, with their lives, as her Dad was everything to her, and her Mom. I get it! She asked me in a very nice and kindly fashion, to do whatever is right with the project, and she would take care of her Mom, as Mom doesn't want to talk about it, or ever even see it again, as this project kept him in the shop at night, amongst everything else he was doing, with other projects, as it's time for them to emotionally move on! I'm to the point, that if someone whipped in here with a trailer, and a reasonable offer, it's there's!!! I do have a couple other contacts in mind that will come pick it up, and do what needs to be done, as that's what will probably happen, real soon!!! Thanks, Limestone
Limestone, I was flipping houses before covid for roughly 10 years (I held an almost full time job as well) and I am currently importing minitrucks, repairing their mechanical issues, repairing any structure issues, repairing panel issues. painting them entirely or as needed, driving them around a little and auctioning them off. I know most people just do not want to do any work when they purchase a house or minitruck. Any flaw detracts from their willingness to buy. A rip in the seat is a death blow (I have an upholsterer) and the same goes for no AC. I have to be very careful to pick a vehicle with a lot of potential and then fully realize it. It just how it is now. There are not many of us left that can take this type of project from start to finish. Even less that will actually do it. I wish you the best with this. Steve
BAT is very picky about the vehicles they accept. I have sold four there. Another one was rejected, then later accepted, but I had sold it in the meantime. Here is my listing page for examples of their standards: https://bringatrailer.com/member/quickstrike/
A lot of these trucks have dysfunctional AC. My van is blessed with ice cold AC even at 90+F outside but a lot of my minitruck buddies here in Charlotte, NC don't have AC working. If I was motivated or needed some income I could probably do some business refurbing and repairing minitruck AC systems. On the other note, a lot of younger buyers with no mechanical experience are buying these trucks but then in 3 months they are disappointed when things start failing. Even the ones with modern mechanic chops are not familiar or comfortable with carbureted engines. I know some guys that do repairs on the side because standard garages won't touch them because their not in the machines or the OBD can't be used. Anyway, I've had a lot of fun working on mine. @Limestone Your experience selling a project for an estate is, unfortunately, becoming all too common as we boomers with cars start to age out. Good luck with the sale!
I appreciate the sound advice from the many qualified members here! A middle aged guy who works for a long time truck mechanic, that I have dealt with and known personally for over 50 yrs now is interested, and I'll keep you posted! So many Irons in the fire now, but in a good way, I'm moving forward as I always Do!!! Limestone!
Found an Interested Party, as the Family would like me to move this! All loaded up on a trailer, and taking locally to a gentleman, that is interested in finishing and then possibly moving the unit. A good move, will keep posted, and updated. Limestone
Limestone, Can you put up the list of what is done and what should be done that you created? Does this have an OH title? I may know an interested party, but it would have to have a title and it would be good to know how deep the list of restoration is. Thanks - Steve
Steve, You're late to the party! This unit has already been committed to someone who will enjoy it! Limestone
Absolutely, and enjoy it! Amazingly, he has done a few and does that kind of work for a living! Limestone
