Okay so no matter what resource or tutorial I've dug through, none of them actually show a picture of the points. Is the little space circled in my picture the point gap? If so, are the bolts pointed to by the arrows for adjustment? No matter how close or far I move it using my feeler gauges, the dwell meter consistently reads around 25° for dwell angle and doesn't seem to be affected by gap point adjustments. This does not change at operating temp (thought the spark advance valce might do something but no). I just want to make sure I'm not insane I'm fairly certain those are the point gaps I'm adjusting.
You don't have points, those are magnetic pickups for the electronic ignition. The dwell is set by the ignition module and the advance happens with mechanical and vaccum advance. What you are adjusting is the clearance between pickups and the rotor. You want them as close as possible but not touching when the dizzy turns.
Holy crap thank you so much! Man this has been such a learning curve going from computer everything on my KTM's! Now I can move on to cleaning the carb with peace of mind.
