Any thoughts as to what I should purchase in advance to be prepared for maintenance on the 1993 Subaru Sambar Truck I am about to buy from Japan. This is my first mini truck. The truck looks like it is in great shape and has 30000km. ie: Fluids, what types, oil, tranny etc. Block heater (I live in Alberta) Compliant lights Seals I may need to replace Lift kit, how high can I go, I'ver heard 2 1/2" max Tires, how big with and without the lift. Anything else that I may have missed. Thanks in advance, new to this site and look forward to any information that can be provided.
First off, watch out for the 30 000km That is less than 2000 km/year-although possible, not too likely. I also live in Alberta, and have found after I set them them up ,they start extremely well in any weather. If wanted,a magnetic/stick on pan heater is best. Welcome to the Sambar club. Is she SC EFI
Welcome Swede. I'm sure you'll have a great time with it. How do you plan to use it? Is it a 4x4? Diff lock? You'll love it. Jim
Quick question for you Subaru where did you put the heat do you take it off when you drive? I have heard of some using inline heaters I bought a magnetic but can't find a location that i feel safe leaving it on with out it falling off and climbing under every night seems like a real pain so needless to say it doesn't get plugged in. Starts every time...... well almost...... believe it or not twice it didn't once it was in the unheated garage once it was in the "tent" garage. lol seems to prefer it outdoors.
thanks for the replies, I did not purchase that truck, looking for other good candidates now. Quick question, is there a specific model that you would recommend. So far it seems to me that the Subaru and Mitsubishi models would make the most sense for myself. Being that they have the larger cabs rear mounted engines which offers a better center of gravity for the Alberta mountains. I will be using it for a bit of driving around town but mostly for fun in the mountains, so looking for a 5 speed 4 wheel drive model preferably with AC. I agree that you gotta be careful with the low km ones being they may not be legit, however I've been lucky with the low km ones that I have purchased in the past from Japan. Cheers
have you checked for another truck in the for sale section on this board? or with some of the site sponsors at the top of this page?
I usually buy direct from Japan when looking for a new toy, however I have been on the site sponser sites seeing what is available as well.
Swede, We have some great deals going on right now. We have over 200 trucks on the lot right here. They are in the US so you don't have to ship them on a boat. Check out the price list on my signature. Also this week we will even beat those prices significantly. You probably can't get a better deal from Japan!
Hi Cory, If I was to purchase from a US dealer am I still limited to the 15 year rule that is applicable here in Canada. Also will the vehicle have the speed limiter removed.
I'll answer the 1st question for Cory. No. The second question, I don't know, he has to answer that one. I know that when we bought ours, (a "96" Subaru Sambar) it had no "Speed limiter" (90kph+). Someone told me that, it was probably "grandfathered"/shipped in. (prior to 2006) Tmikewww(tom)
I know this is a old thread but I am going to Mayberry Mini Trucks on this Wednesday or so to look at the Sambars so what should I look out for on the truck. I want an low mileage one in good shape but it doesn't have to be perfect shape since I am going to use it here in mountains of Western North Carolina and at our ranch in Southwest Florida as a work truck. Don't plan to do much in the way of mods.
Brought her home yesterday from Mayberry and took her for my first drive here in the mountains of WNC. Gonna take me a bit to get use to driving her. She is running just great. Need to build another garage for her and her trailer.
