I just bought my first, new to me, 1989 hijet pickup! I love it already. It has had some hillbilly (used endearingly) foxes and is currently running off a boat gas tank in the bed. Plenty of things have been moved and rerouted to accommodate god knows what, but it is what it is. I can get it to start but it won’t idle (just dies) and afterwards it seems like it’s flooded. I have a bunch of questions but I will start with three. 1 - I have been unable to locate a shop manual for this engine. It is usually the first thing I buy when getting a new to me project. Any leads on where to find one in English? 2 - I have seen a couple of post showing people replacing their vac lines with colored ones. Does anyone have any close up shots of where all the lines go? I have some that are plugged and would like to put the engine back the way it started. 3 - I was poking around and found this (see picture) and would like to know what it is and where it goes. I have rebuilt a few engines and am fairly capable, but I used to having something to work off. Thanks in advance for any help and I am happy to be a part of the forum.

I believe that is the Thermostatic vacuum switch (TSVS). based on coolant temperature it switches vacuum ports to control "choke" function on the carburetor. do you have an aftermarket carburetor installed? I have an S83P and it is similar to this but there are 4 or 5 vacuum lines on it, this looks like it has only 2 ports?

Only two ports. I have ordered an aftermarket carb that should be arriving shortly. I’m happy to leave those as is, assuming it won’t cause any trouble with the engine. Thanks!
