    Hi All,

I just picked up a Mitsubishi U14T with the 3G81 engine. The guy I bought it from thought it was a 1995. From my limited research, they weren’t using that model engine in 1995.

I also tried looking up my truck using the VIN. I didn’t have any luck there either. All of the places my searches said to look, I have no numbers. The only number I see is under the Drivers Seat. U00TAU000339. I do not see any other numbers on this truck to reference, let alone one with 17 digits.

I originally posted this in the Mitsubishi sub forum, but it looks like this post will see more traffic over here.

I knew this would be the place for answers so I’m all ears fellas.

I punched that number into the parts site https://partsouq.com and megazip.com and got nada. Is it right hand drive? It won't have a 17 digit vin. That number should be the frame number which is equivalent to a vin in japan. Maybe its a Chinese knock off?

And it definitely has a governor or rev limiter. I’ve been driving to work this week (1 mile each way) and the Speedo App I downloaded to my phone got to 23 mph. That’s gonna have to go, eventually. I’ve got bigger fish to fry once I figure out exactly what I’ve got.

Cushman imported and sold some trucks that were made by one of the Japanese manufacturers, but I forget which one. If you search "cushman white truck" you should get some good info. They had a governor of some sort, but I never really paid attention to that details much as I didn't have one, just made a note of it in the dark corners of my mind.

Actually some of them I think had a 4th/5th gear lockout plate. Look around the shifter and the trans linkage and see if you notice anything. I think all the minitrucks were at least a 4 speed trans.

UPDATE: It’s a 1988. I found one of the seat belt tags when I was reinstalling them. The previous owner had removed them and stashed them in the glovebox.

I sent en email to G&R imports yesterday too. I called parts and he confirmed the year . I got a carb rebuild kit ordered that should be here before the weekend.
