The wiper arm tensioner springs were all rusted, so I ordered replacement springs online (since no parts stores apparently sell springs, just whole wiper arms). My problem is putting the new springs back. They are held in by a "C" shaped angled clip which is really hard to catch blind and with the spring fully extended. I'd take the wiper arms off to replace them, but I can't figure out how. The James Danko manual does not touch on the wiper arms at all. The universal wiper arm removal tools I already owned assume you have a nut on top of the base of the arm, but the arm is a solid piece where it connects to the hood, so I can't remove a cap to unscrew a nut to release the arm. The only other thing down there is a round plastic collar but, as far as I can tell, there's nothing else down there. Does anybody know how to remove the wiper arm or a better tool to hold both the high tension spring and the "C" clip than a pair of pliers. I have to put the clip on a string because it shoots across the garage every time I think I have the clip locked in and let the wiper arm down. View attachment 24062
A guy on YT called KEITruckWI did a video about repainting his wiper arms. He had to take them off to repaint them. You may want to watch the video and reach out to him. He has a MiniCab as well.
Yup, I never would have guessed the metal piece that sits over the joint is hinged. I'm glad I don't have to dig round behind the dash to take those off. Thanks for the tip.
