hi all first post here, i did a search but couldnt really find what im after.. ive got (bearing in mind i am downunder) a 1987 daihatsu hijet, i believe its a s85, as the vin number goes something like jda000s85 etc.. its got a 1000cc carburettor linked to a 5 speed, 2wd. i love the beast, no complaints except the fact that im after more power, more go. is there an engine either in daihatsu range or other make which will fit in with little or not too much trouble?? has anyone here done a conversion like this? efi, turbo, supercharged engines im open to all offers. any help would be much appreciated, cheers cem
If you are looking for direct bolt on and go...nothing..other than exhaust, air filter, colder irridium plugs with timing increased...all DIY stuff....there have been afew engine swap threads in the forum (you can find them with the search bar) and at least one current supercharger http://www.minitrucktalk.com/showthread.php?t=6489 (not for the faint of heart) or a complete drivetrain /engine change http://www.minitrucktalk.com/showthread.php?t=3306 also not for the uninitiated another in progress http://www.minitrucktalk.com/showthread.php?t=5780
thanks for the tip, the supercharger thread looks interesting, ill definately read into that a little more. cheerrs
just bumping to see if theres any new ideas/opinions. im really curious - there must be a better daihatsu engine which will bolt in with reasonable effort?? theres gotta be someone out there! need more power :frustration:
Hi Guys, I am just finishing one of now. Converted from 1200cc diesel to 1.3 EFI. What do you want to know? The range of vehicles which may supply donor lumps is: Suziki Super carry, Bedford Rascal, Piagio Porter and of course the Hijet. Mechanically, the Cantor on the petrol is opposite to the diesel, so if your cylinder head is on the left side you OK, otherwise full drive train transplant, as diff is ofset. The EFI block will drop straight in but you will need the donor vehicle as the entire loom has to go over with it, on account of the ECM mounted under dash. And probably the plumbing too, air and water pipes have different routings and EFI system has sensors in to feed the ECU. Not sure about final drive ratios but 5 speed box should be same, I had to swop it all over anyway so not been there. Feel free to pick brains if you need more. Andy
