I am a mechanic at RSM mini truck sales, www.usedminitrucks.com, the brand new trucks that we are gettin now ARE able to get licenced in ALL 50 states WITH a plate. The only catch is they all have to be electricle speed limited to 25mph. This option is only available in some 2009 and all 2010. You can still buy one as an atv without the speed limiter but the street legal will be tamper proof limiters as required by the federal government. Like I said ALL 50 states..... Any questions just ask and we will exchangeinfo and I will let ya in on all the ins and outs. RSM minitruck sales are the ONLY importers of new trucks in the US at this time that has this option. It is not getting around the Law it is complying with the law. At this time we have 4 trucks that are street legal in all 50 states..

Define "street legal" for me if you please. What street is it legal to only drive 25 mph on with the exception of a city street?

My conversations with the EPA indicate that trucks absolutely positively MUST be speed limited to be imported as an ATV... I'm not trying to be a pain in your ass, I just want the facts. Also, how much $$$?
  7. Hello Iron, I will answer for TSPE2006.

The trucks are imported to meet FMVSS part 500 rules for Low Speed Vehicles. They are specifically manufactured to meet this rule for LSVs. They come with a VIN, title and meet all safety requirements of the part 500 rules.

Where the speed limit is less than 35 mph the vehicle is entitled to use a full lane. Where the speed limit is more than 35 the vehicle must use the right most portion of the lane or the shoulder of the road if possible.

The vehicles will have both a plate and a triangle. The plate is for state and local registration. The triangle is to meet the federal rules for navigation on rural highways. These vehicles also meet the federal Slow Moving Vehicle rules.

So. You can take one of the road legal trucks and drive across the country at 25 mph as long as you do not use the federal interstates.

We are hopeful that if more and more of the vehicles are sold a special class of vehicle will develop that will be more than the LSV but less than the full road vehicle class. Say a moderate speed vehicle class.

Anyway, maybe dreaming, maybe not. Time will tell.

Wow, IMO this is indeed a huge step forward, congrats guys! With them being electronically limited I would imagine that means they will actually achieve 25 mph too instead of the approximately 15mph of most limited trucks I've driven.

Well, as I have a 25 mile commute the LSV route won't work for me... but I think it's definitely a step in the right direction. Once people get used to having them around it's only a matter of time until they're legal without the speed limiter.

Personally, I also see this as a big step in the right direction. I would think that 40-45mph would be an ideal "medium speed" limit. Not so slow as to be a hazard on most rural highways, but fast enough to be reasonable to take to town. And certainly fast enough to get around the property or hunting areas. The limited speed plus Kei-like mandated vehicle size limits would, I think, self regulate the market to those that really need/want the attributes of these little trucks.

You are crazy monkey! You are the only one to be street legal? Hmmmm....every one of these trucks are also street legal as an LSV!

I can't title a mini truck in MN as a LSV. I've talked to the state and local DMV.

    Move to North Dakota! lol
We can register mini trucks as off highway vehicles. they can go on any 2 lane highway. Most cities allow them on city streets.

That's what I was thinking. I've read the post 3 times and don't see the NEW part of news here. Not all states have LSV laws as far as I know and aside from the import restrictions, I haven't seen anything that regulates one sellers truck differently than the rest.

I DO know that in TN a KEI truck meets the Medium Speed Vehicle specs if it speed limited to 35MPH. etc et
Dont get me wrong here, I want 'em all legal on any road. I just dont see where the "exclusive" claims come from.

They are absolutely not able to be titled, plated or driven on any MN road as a Low Speed Vehicle. They are not allowed to drive on any MN roadways under any circumstances... unless you live in Carlton, Mower, or one of the other counties where an ordinance has been passed to allow them on any roadway that is not a state trunk highway.

I thought he had changed something so they would be imported as a Low Speed Vehicle. When I talked to the EPA a few months back they told me mini's are too SAFE and not emissions tested so they couldn't be qualified as an LSV and too SMALL to be classified as an ORV. That was straight on the phone with a representative from the EPA who handles imports and exports...

ha! thats why the one i saw in minot had a tag on the front! didnt know they were allowed on the roads. There was a guy up by Kenmare that had a couple containers in but couldnt sell them i heard.

Yup. I didn't know that anyone in Kenmare had them. There just doesn't seem to be much demand up here for them. My dad was thinkin about getting a container of them but everyone he talked to didn't seem interested and that was 4 years ago

I'm street legal in MS, I received my TAG last week and my TITLE came in the mail today. Got inspection sticker last week. My wife and kids love driving this mini around the house, now I can drive in town. My F-150 King Ranch 4x4 was 83.00 bucks to fill up the other day, so I will be in the Sambar for small trips to/from town. :)
