Hi, I was wondering if anyone here has used the K&N 33-2222 air filter for their Sambar. On K&N's website they list this one as fitting. How did you like it? How's the fitment? Would you recommend?
Anyone wanting to know the K&N filter that is listed for a Sambar does not fit correctly just like everyone has said with other replacement filters.
The gasket on it is not as thick as the stock filter, so it does not make a good seal. It is a tad too short on the longest side. With that the filter can get scooted all the way to one side allowing a jap that air and dirt can get straight past. I was off roading mine one day after I installed it, and I checked it after. I could see dust all in the hose that runs from the air box to the carburetor.
Hmm.. Before I started buying air filters from Japan, I was using 89-93 Ford Festiva filters. They were a pretty good fit, and sealed quite well. I just managed to get an amazing deal on proper Japanese filters, so I have a lifetime supply of them now.
These are the filters that I buy now. They are designed specifically for the Sambar and Domingo. There was a sale on them a while back that was under $8 each, but even the normal ~$11 price is not too bad. If you buy a half dozen of them, it spreads the shipping out to be a reasonable amount per unit. https://www.amazon.co.jp/PIAA-PF58-Filter-Subaru-Samber_Domingo_Others/dp/B005C74FJI/?th=1
+1 on the amazon japan link above as I also buy these filters. Any filter on this side of the ocean hasn't fit quite right in my experiences.
