Japanese Service Manual Download (S100, S110, S120, S130)

I have finally finished scanning my 1994 Japanese service manual for the Hijet S100-series. If the existing English translation available here is missing something, this manual sure to have it. It covers the following models:

V-S100P
V-S110P
V-S100C
V-S110C
V-S100CT
V-S110CT
V-S100V
V-S110V
V-S120V
V-S130V

And also covers these engines:

EF-NS
EF-ES
EF-TS

I have also used optical character recognition (OCR) to convert the Japanese into selectable text. It's not perfect, but you can theoretically copy and paste lines and phrases into Google Translate that way.

You could also use Google Translate's app to translate whole images screenshotted from your phone. Yandex image translator is also good for this.

I have also made bookmarks for all of the chapters and numerous subheadings.

Thank you for posting this! Can I ask how you did the scans? I have the 1995, 1996, and 1997 supplements coming in the mail eventually, and the EF-GS, etc., people might find scans very useful. I have a flatbed scanner, so I considered cutting the bindings off, scanning, and then having them spiral bound, but a non-destructive way would be even better. Apparently there are services that scan books?

 

I had the spine cut off at the campus print shop but they told me they couldn't scan it because it was a copyrighted book, plus they would have probably charged a lot per page. So I took it to the department office where I work and used the really nice scanner they have there, which emails everything to you as a PDF. I think I had to play with the scan DPI settings to get the pictures to not look shitty, you'll have to play with it and find a good minimum so that the file size isn't huge. It took about three or four days of just going there and scanning a few chapters at a time for an hour or so. Very repetitive process. Then I merged everything into one PDF and used optical character recognition (OCR) in Foxit PDF to make the entire document text searchable (which might be a paid feature, can't remember, let me know if you want me to do it for you).

I bought it from Yahoo Auctions Japan - unfortunately there aren't any on offer right now. There is the first year s1xx manual, which MrJPolito has scanned, followed by supplements every time a model refresh happens. Most of the EF-GS stuff is in the second supplement, 1996. It's kind of a bummer - if you have a 1998, you basically need every single supplement to have complete service information. AND there are separate 'explanation' manuals that correspond to them that give an overview of the truck's systems.

This should be your vacuum diagram, at least as far as emission control systems are concerned. The inset at the lower right is for trucks with AC. Sorry about the bleed through from the opposite page - this manual is really bad for that.

 

There are also trouble codes you can read by shorting terminal TE1 to E1 on the 'check connector' under the dash. It looks like they mostly report bad sensors of various types.

(FYI, Google Lens will do a reasonably good job of translating these pages for you.)

 

Are there a couple pages on the EF-GS timing belt change that can be shared, Van is still on way to US, but it has about 100,000k on it so I'm thinking one of the first major things to do is the timing belt.

Is your van 2WD with a manual transmission? If not, the procedure should be the one in the 1994 manual at the beginning of this thread. My 1996 manual only gives an updated procedure for 2WD manual vans.

 

Its 4 wheel drive, manual, but all the manuals including the Japanese language one above only have the SOHC procedures I'm pretty sure. Unless its somehow the same, SOHC and DOHC.

 

From the 'explanation' manual it looks like the #1 camshaft is geared to #2, and only #2 has a timing belt sprocket on it, so both engine types do have the same number of sprockets. But now that I've looked at the procedure from my manual and the 1994 one here, I have doubts. The 1994 manual shows a one-part timing cover, but I know from Partsfan that even my truck has the 2-part timing cover. You might look up your van chassis number on Partsfan and see what timing cover it shows you. Maybe '(2WD VAN M/T)' doesn't mean what I think it means - is it everything but those variants? I don't have my truck yet either, so we may both need to look at the real thing to make a determination. I've included the 1996 pages in case you or others need them (sorry about my finger, the pages don't want to stay open).

For my EF-GS i used youtube.

It is an older model engine in the clip. But it is basically the same procedure. One thing I did, was removing the cooling fan. Gives you more space.

 

Removing the fan is definitely a must-do if you are doing the water pump at the same time. I had to make room for my grunting self and my Rube Goldberg repurposed bearing splitter in order to get the old water pump to budge. On my 4WD I took the fan and shroud out from the top because the front driveline was in the way. 2WD people might be able to drop it down instead and not have to disassemble the 'bridge' that has the shifter and parking brake lever. I found it easiest to do most of the work from under the truck since the clearance is so good and 'levitating' over the seats in the cab is so hard on the back.

I can confirm my old post above that the 1996 procedure matches what was in my truck completely. I have no idea why it seems to exclude automatic trucks...

 

Digging up an old thread. Where were you ablto find the 1997 supplement? I searching for one myself.

 

Yes, it mostly has updated specs for the electronic controls of the carburetor and service info for the 1997-1999 automatic transmission. I will say that in a year of watching Yahoo Auctions I've never seen the supplements come up for sale again... There is currently a paper copy of the base 1994 manual on there if you want one. I'm still looking for the base 'explanation' manual to match it.

That's exactly what I'm looking for. Trying to troubleshoot a cold start problem on my Atrai EF-GS.

I have the base 1994 Manual, as well as the translated English one. Both very helpful. I am going as far as re translating some of the original Japanese text from the 94 manual for the carburetor chapter.

Part of me is trying to address my hoarder instinct, and just want to put hands on the 97 update supplement.
