how to remove the axle?

    after removing tires and brake drum, i need to re grease my bearings. how to remove the axle?
    thanks in advance.

    behind the hub are 4 bolts that hold the drum backing plate to the rear end..(you'll have to dis-connect the e-brake cables and the hydraulic brake lines as well...then the bearings will be behind the backing plate...the backing plate holds and seals the bearings into the ends of the rear end housing(axle tube)...the axles pull straight out with the bearings attached be careful of the axle seal inside the axle tube when pulling the axle out and putting it back in...you may need to use a slide hammer or tap the axle shaft towards you as they are slightly pressed into the diff carrier
