Been trying to figure out how we can identify EN05 / 7 / 8 engines. The only ones I’ve seen are in my vehicles

    Were they stamped anywhere?

Are you trying to determine if it is a 5 7 or 8? or are you talking about identifying the difference between an EN07C, EN07Y, EN07F, etc?

Sorry, I didn’t properly put that thought down! What I was trying to say was - yes, how can we identify the different EN0x engines, as well as the variants within each model.

For comparison - in the Classic Mini world, the A series engines had stamped plates on them that would tell you the displacement, it could also tell you if it was a special Cooper or Cooper S engine, etc. I just don’t know how to do that with the Subaru EN engines yet.

It is etched into the block on a tab that sticks up above the head. It can be seen without removing anything, but it does tend to rust a bit there making it hard to read in some cases:

Otherwise, if it is a Sambar.. it is going to be an EN07 no matter what. The EN05 was only used in the Subaru Rex from the 80s, and the EN08 was only in the Subaru Fiori in Australia.

Telling which version of EN07 it is would be somewhat straight forward for the Sambar variants, EN07C would have a carb attached, EN07S would have a single injector on top, EN07F would have a fuel rail and 4 injectors, and the EN07Y has a Supercharger attached.

Ahhh - thank you! I will certainly look for that.

….and as usual, you’re absolutely right. :) Thank you!
