Hijet wouldn't start this morning. I hit a couple big puddles yesterday and stalled. One quick spray of Quick Start and it ran but rough and stumbled then warmed up and smoothed out. This morning though the Quick Start didn't work. I have spark and put some methyl hydrate in the fuel tank but don't know what to do next. Any ideas??? Thanks, Ralph in Winnipeg.

You might have water in the distributer cap take the cap off and dry it out

Yes, I checked that and cleaned the rotor and pins in the distributor cap - all bone dry. I have good spark at the plug so I'm thinking water in the fuel or fuel pump.

S83 and S110's have the mech. fuel pump hanging right above #1 cylinder. Disconnect at the discharge line on fuel pump or at the feed line to carb. and see if its pumping.

i installed a electric fuel pump on mine. (inline) and left the stock one installed on the truck works nice. princess auto has one on sale for $59.95

but i dont think that will help you. i cannot see hititng a couple big puddles doing that. what year is your truck?

Possible you soaked the air filter in the puddles??? remove the filter box cover and check it...

I pulled the airfilter and it's totally dry.

Starpuss - it's a 92 Hijet S83P. How did you install that electric pump - it's a third of the price of the stock one.

I'll check the fuel pump tonight, maybe a clogged fuel filter?

Yup, I'm trying to keep it as stock as possible. Didn't get around to checking anything last night - hopefully tonight!

don't know if this will help but here it goes.......... i was having a similar problem and for months i messed with it until i pulled it into my garage when it started acting up. opened both seats and the "bed hood" and turned the lights out. had my buddy under the truck and i began cranking it until he said he saw arcing from the coil. put a super stack on it and have been good since.

Is it getting fuel? pull off fuel line from fuel pump to carb and crank over engine. If no fuel try suction pump (mouth as I had to) on the fuel line and if and when fuel flows plug line back into carb. I had this on mine and it ended up being a hole in diaphram on fuel pump. I also installed an electric pump and switch in line with fuel filter to keep me hunting. I then replaced the mechanical pump. Having both is good for any future problems. Hope this may help

Thanks for all the replies guys!! I pulled the fuel filter last night and fuel gushed out - so no plug there - before pulling the line off the pump I figured I'd turn it over. Yup, started no problem. Turned it off and on again a couple of times and let it run - runs great. I will replace the fuel filter anyway, but I'm thinking it was plugged maybe some ice??? I'll see how long this lasts!!!

if your fuel filter was "full? then you had a plug. they should stay 1.2-3/4 full.

Hi, I have something that maybe you can help me out with. got an 89 hijet. aside from carb issues it was running fairly well untill today.driving up an incline when it lost power and then shut off on its own. Cranked it back up with not much trouble and continued in 2nd gear hi. Had it floored and the rpms not building. Seemed to clear up and then died. Try to crank but nothing. Makes a different noise while cranking like its not catching or lost compression. Also needs a water pump.. Any suggestions? Thanks!

never had a mini truck before ....the belt that is visible on the front of the engine is still on. would a failing water pump keep it from cranking..?
