My dad bought 2 Hijets from a local VA medical center auction 12 years ago before these things got really popular. Paid $500 for 2: one running and one for parts. We have used it on our 300 acre ranch ever since. The Hijet is a white 1990 S80LP left hand drive 2 wheel drive. We replaced the stock tires with Dirt Devil ATV tires. I have been having some problems with keeping the truck idling without dying lately. I have ordered new: NGK plugs, air filter, fuel filter, distributor rotor all from G & R. I'm also installing a 2.5 - 4 PSI electric fuel pump. All the vaccum hoses are hooked up and good. I have replaced the mechanical pump trwice since we bought the trucks. Hopefully all this maintenance will fix my problem. I'll also be removing the speed limiter once thr truck is running well and installing a custom trailer hitch in the rear bolted to the frame.
Welcome aboard, I'm sure the guys camped out in the Daihatsu section would love to chat. We like pics too, specially minis chasing hogs, with dogs..
Today I did a little maintenance: oil and oil filter drained gas tank (yes it has a drain plug...coolest thing ever) Pressure washed tank Fresh gas new air filter new NGK plugs new cap and rotor rear end oil Replaced the carb with a basically new spare we had. Still more A/F adjusting to do but its running good. Next will be: new rear shocks install rear trailer hitch Herculine the bed and back of the cab.
I was surprised to learn that the initial setting for the af mixture is 41/2 turns.Just in case you didn't know.Sure straightened mine out when I changed carbs.
So do you screw it all the way it til it bottoms out gently, then reverse 4 1/2 turns? Thanks so much for the info.
Right just don't over tighten it.I stumbled on that spec in the tune up section of the manual, nothing about it in carb section.
