4 wheel drive button stopped working in my 93' daihatsu hijet. can anyone explain how the 4 wheel drive button on the hi/lo shifter engages the wheel drive? working one day and not the next. traced the wires back. found that they go back to the transfer case into a 2 different solenoid looking things, one on top of transfer case and one towards the rear. could one of these parts have gone bad? any help would be appreciated. thank you.
Is the button between the seats? On the Hi/lo handle? I thought had to replace one once, it was just cruddy, like the guy that drove it just spilled his coffee on it every day. The other thing is, that has to be removed to install the governator (Colin did eye spell that write?), and that adds to the bad connection, dirty contacts, etc kind of problems. Make sure you've got a good clean connection, and rate how cruddy the switch on the handle is. When did Diahatsu put the 4wd switch on the dash? Jim
I have a 97 that has the button on the dash as well as a 99. I also have the older ones with the button on the shift lever. Not certain the year they moved to the push button on the dash. Jeff
the button for the 4 wheel drive is on the hi low shifter between the seats. took apart the switch and metered the switch. switch is good. the light on the dash does not light up and 4 wheel drive does not engage. did take out the solenoid looking things on the transfer case and metered. one switch closes with resistance when i push in the solenoid. the other one does not, like it is broken. one of the wires going into the solenoid has 12 volts going in when the key is on. i will check vacumn lines tomorrow. any help would be great. thanks.
still no luck. vacuum lines look good. no light on dash for 4 wheel drive and no 4 wheel drive. the only thing i can think of is the solenoid looking thing on top of the transfer case being bad. anyone out there have any suggestions? anyone know where i can get the solenoid looking part? thanks.
you can always pull the solenoid off and take a look at it... make sure it actuates, if it doesn't then you can try and work it loose, maybe? just make sure you trace the lines all the way back to the source. you can also try and "hotwire" it... get power directly to the switch or to the solenoid and see what happens. good luck
Nope. Never did figure it out. Gave up trying. Been driving around in 2 wheel drive. Also can't find anyone willing to work on it around here in las Vegas. If you figure it out please post some advice. Thank you.
