The Partsouq catalog is littered with mis-spellings and poor translations, and gives a lot of duplicate information... it also does not properly indicate the trim level in most cases. I would not rely on it too heavily, at least when it comes to Subarus.. they may be fine for other brands.

Brought a new-to-us Sambar home. Somehow managed to find a 4wd, MT Sambar here on O'ahu - already registered and stuff, and it's in great shape! Can someone please help with decoding the VIN? Also, is there a document out there somewhere that I (we) could use to do this for ourselves? KV4-120508 Does this seem correct? Frame: KV4 Model Code: T11 Body: TY (Try (incl. Dias)) Engine: EN07C (660cc carb) Drive: S4WD (selective 4 wheel drive) Production Date: 11.01.1995 Grade: DSCL (Dias Classic) Transmission: MT (Manual Transmission) Roof: H/R (High roof, no sunroof) Option Code: C Color Code: 403 (Ivory / Green) Trim Code: 010 (Grey)
There is no single document to do this, It needs to be looked up in the Subaru database which spits out all of the information. The VIN is a literal serial number, and it completely depends on how Subaru built them day to day.. For example KV4-120508 is a Green Dias Classic with a Carbed engine, KV4-120509 is a Blue Dias Extra S also with a Carbed engine, but KV4-120507 is a White Dias II with a Supercharged engine. They were all built the same day right after each other on the 11th of January, 1995. That information that you have is correct, but some of it is unneeded or duplicate. I just parse it down to a smaller, more relevant copy-paste. What CAN be decoded if you have a proper key is the Applied Model Code (in this case KV4L57N). K - Subaru Sambar (prior to 1999) V - 5th generation Van 4 - 4WD L - December 1993-October 1995 with High Roof 5 - 5-door 7 - Dias Classic N - 5 Speed+EL Selectable 4WD Manual The various code meanings vary from year to year and model to model, but that applied model format is universal to all Subarus since the 80s.
Ahhh - thank you! I wasn't quite aware of how it all worked. Thank you for pulling up the information for me!

Thank you! One question. Would you happen to know, when I look for parts am I looking for KS3 or KS4? The KS4 in the Vin is throwing me off a little.
Sorry, that was a copy-paste fail. It should be KS4. That number only indicates how many driven wheels there are on this particular chassis. KS3 = 2WD, KS4 = 4WD I usually copy-paste an earlier list and edit the fields as needed, I just didn't realize that I copied one from a KS3.
