Hey guys! I recently traded into what I'm told is a 1979 Daihatsu mini with the 660cc engine, 5-speed trans and high/low 4wd. Everything that I had read about these said that they were slow and not street legal. This one came with registration, so I called my insurance agent, and then made a trip to the tag office. They sold me a tag with no questions asked. I did ask if there were any limitations on the truck, and they said that it wasn't allowed on the interstate, but other than that, I was good to go. According to my GPS, the truck has gotten up to 74mph so far. Sounds like it was straining the engine a little, so I probably will never see that speed again. It does seem quite comfortable at 55 though! I'm very pleased with the truck, with the exception of no A/C. It gets hot in south GA! Then again, that's why the previous owner let me take it off his hands. Are there any aftermarket kits for A/C available for these little things? Thanks guys! Darren
darranbrigman, wont be a 1979 with 660cc engine, check the the seat belt tag where it connects to truck body for year model. If it has a 660cc engine its most likely a 1990 or newer. Pre 1990 will be a 550cc.
Georgia cracker, yea man What part of Georgia you from. Me, I'm a transplanted Valdosta, Ga. boy now living in the Philippines..........Should I say.... Go Dogs!!!!
hello georgia boy Yes, I know moultrie, been there a thousand times. Years and years ago we would go to moultrie and get our diving tanks filled, being there was no place in Valdosta to get it done. I can't remember the name of the establishment but I do know they sold boats, and not to mention the football games between Moultrie, Valdosta, Tifton and Lowndes. I know you will enjoy your mini. Stay in touch with this group, you will learn quite a bit. Tob
Speaking of aftermarket ac units. Google it.There are aftermarket ac units. I know some old guys that build old hot rods here in Austin. 12 to 1400 will get you one I think. Where would you put it? Thats the problem. Maybe the bed?
Greg, Shame on you - you know us Southern Boys gotta stick together and help one another. You could have told Darren about the aftermarket A/C option you shared in post #4 of this thread. http://www.minitrucktalk.com/showthread.php?t=2022 Just had to do it. By the way Welcome Darren from the Fl panhandle........later, slim
