hello,i ve been reading here for a while ,figured i should join now that my truck is on the road.it took me about 6 months to do this (no money,no time) i put 14 inch rims on it with 185 tires i got the wrong rims so i added a 1 inch spacer .this worked well.i added turn signals on the side .i got the wrong ones they needed to be reflective.so i added orange reflecters in the front and red ones in the back.i tried to wire up the day time driving lights myself(not recommended, almost fried all the wireing )i did get the orange lights up front and the tail lights to come on when i started the truck.it turns out this was not good enuff either(some thing about candle power in the front )so i got can tire to hook it up to the headlights the other prob they had was with the brakes they wanted paper work on the allowable thickness(couldn t find any)so they phoned d . o . t . long story short the truck is on the road .after 4 trips i figure my fuel costs are almost cut in half and instead of a 45min drive on back roads it is 55 min ..this truck drives better than i thought it would.it handles the road great it even slides on slippery roads better than i thought it would (so far)..when brakeing on snowy slippery roads it locks up the tires way faster than i thought it would .lol. a few problems have popped up but i m working on them .it a 20 year old truck after all.
14" rims What kind of truck do you have, I would love to get 14" rims for my suzuki carry but am having a tough time finding the right bolt pattern (4X115mm) with the right back spacing.
i have a 1990 suzuki carry 4*4 h/l axle lock.the 14" rims i got from can tire they just barely cleared on the rear and on the front they rubbed on the coil springs so i went with 1 inch spacers wich brought me close to factory tire clearance away from springs ..as for the 27 inch tires you were looking at getting ...the biggest i have heard of on a mini is 25" with a lot of lift
27"... Well last summer i was running 26" wrangler on arctic cat atv rims with 2" spacers on the front, It looks like someone put a 2" lift on before i got the truck, I had to trim the back and front fenders a bit and only got a little rubbing on the back a like you some on the front but they worked not too bad until I fell in a hole..... I am thinking that with a spring over conversion on the back and longer coils on the front with the right offset atv rims things should work pretty good. I want the 14" with bfg at's for the highyway, oh yeah and with all the bigger rubber am thinking power steering might be a wise move
If you are planning on driving on the highway with anything over 23" you will be lucky to hit 90kph on flat sections...offroad is another matter..if the lift is done properly you can use tall tires and the gearing will be fine...anything too tall or too wide will sap so much power on the road you will wish you hadn't bothered...
engine swap I did notice a huge power problem with the 26" atv tires on the road in high gear, low range in the bush there doesnt seem to be a problem. I was thinking of either juicing up the little 660 in it now or maybe swapping a 1000 turbo out of a sprint or firefly if the bellhousing pattern is the same or close but am having a problem finding that information
