I’m new to mini trucks. I’m in north central Texas and am being given this truck. I don’t have any idea how to decipher the tag/serial numbers. Any help would be appreciated. I know it’s a Mitsubishi and have been told it’s a 1996. image000001.jpeg IMG_0286.jpeg

Sure, here are some ways to decipher the tag/serial numbers on the Mitsubishi mini truck in the image, based on information I found online about deciphering VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) tags:

Look for a sticker: The VIN tag is usually a sticker located on the driver's side door jamb or on the firewall under the hood. It might be a metal plate on some older vehicles.

VIN decoder websites: There are websites that allow you to enter the VIN and get a breakdown of the information it contains, including the model year, engine size, and assembly plant. A quick web search for "VIN decoder" should give you some options.

I’m still at a loss. I see lots of mentions for U14T, U15T but I see nothing on my truck to make me confident what model or year I truly have. Here’s the chassis number.

U15 is an indication it is a 4WD model, U14 is the 2WD version.
D indicates it is a Dump type straight from the factory, T is ordinary trucks with no dump.
The 011 part I have no idea on, usually it would indicate what type of roof, and body it has on a T model coded version there, with two letters.

F in the model code indicates it is a 4-speed manual.
D after that indicates it has doors, door glasses, and windshield. If it was S it would indicate it had no doors, no windshield. M for no doors but windshielded.
L indicates the location of the steering wheel to be on the left.
2 indicates Destination, which is Mitsubishi Motor Sales of America in this case
M indicates the maker is Mitsubishi, rather than some third party.

your engine is a 3g81 which was replaced by 3g83's or 4A30's. the 3g83's were rolled in February 1991 and so on by 4A30's in the U40 series trucks. thinking it's a 1990 maybe. also check the tag on the seat belt

Look on the tags on the seat belts. Thats usually a good clue to the year. It has round headlights which is probably early 1990s.

I finally have the truck at home and unfortunately the seat belt tags are gone. Is there another way to date it?
