Hey, I hope everyone is well. I am currently replacing a blown head gasket on my 1993 hijet with the 659 EF-CS motor in it. I went to a head shop and got it resurfaced, and cleaned the block and check for straightness as well. Everything seems as good as it can be for a replacement, but when I was at the head shop I showed them the gasket I got from gr imports and they were not pleased with the quality of the gasket and materials that were used. Essentially they said it was a cheap gasket, and if I could find better it would be worth sourcing something of better quality. I have been searching around and seems as if I am second guessing myself or dead ending. If I could get some input from some experienced people on here that have done the job and what gaskets they have used it would really help my confidence in closing up this motor. also, if anyone has proper torque specs for the head bolts, intake and exhaust studs that would be appreciated as well. I have searched stuff online and I have found some contradicting torque specs, and purchased a manual from gr imports years ago for this model, and the manual does not give me legible information on their photo copied manual. Thank you all in advance and appreciate whatever intel I can get!
The bodybuilder is right: a cheap gasket can compromise reliability, especially for an older engine. It is recommended to opt for gaskets from recognized and reliable brands.
