Several months ago I posted a thread about adding bed rails to my mini-truck. Today I went even farther and added a over head bar from the right side bed rail to the left side bed rail. This bar is 1 and a half inches from the carry cab top and extended down to the bed rails on both sides. I used one and one half GI pipe and it took just under ten feet. The bar is 41" back to back 90's (actually it is not 90 degree bends but about 75 degree bends). Then I shaped the down legs to match the shape of the carry cab. I welded the down legs to the bed rails, sanded, red leaded and sanded again. I used three coats of flat black marine paint for the final finish. I will add grab handles to these down legs. I did this again because of the kids and I did not want them hanging onto the carry cab top. The top is made of fiberglass and while quite strong, I'll feel better about having something better and stronger for their little busy hands.. It is raining out so when it stops I will take some pics....maybe it will inspire someone else
look forward to the pics! I liked the extended bed side rails... brace them even tougher with a pair of uprights and you are more than doubling their usefulness. z
Extended overhead bar Zardoz, Thanks for the reply, I"ll take the pics in the morning, it has finally stopped raining but I had better hurry, we are in the rainy season.
Pics of Bed rail modifications Here are the pics of bed rail modifications, I may extend the top bar to include two down legs to the frame and welded to the top bar. This will give me a roll bar effect. I hope you like
Extended overhead bar Thank you, Blakkmoon, fupabox, aeroshots and acerguy for your reply. I'm glad you like, makes me feel all the work was worth it.
