I am having trouble with my 91 Honda Acty. I can't have the turn signal, light, and brake all at the same time. The brake light draws power for most things. My fuel pump is also affected. Sometimes once the truck warms up, the pump stops and the truck dies until it cools again. If my lights are on, they dim when I brake, and dim and brighten when driving on rough road. The needle on the speedo melted off.... I replaced the negative battery ground. I added ground to battery from alternator. Battery and alternator check out when tested. Fuse panel all has power. Fuses are good. Relays are all good. Switches on colum are good. Dash was dismantles and checked. I have ground from transmission to truck. I found a ground at the Y where the yellow and white wire go to the fuel pump and the rest go to lights/dash. I'm lost for what to look for from here. Mostly I checked for ground relating issues but wonder if positive wire is frayed, or if positive battery end sucks. Anyone know better?
You have a short. Most probably in the brake light wiring. These kind of things just take time to find. You can start at the taillights and work forward following the wiring harness. Look for rubbed spots, and evidence it may have gotten hot. A good multimeter with closed circuit toner helps a lot.. Look at the rear light and see if you can determine which wire is the one to the brake light. Pull the connector loose, and check it with the Ohm meter or toner it should have infinite resistance or not tone. Chase the tine forward looking for damage to the harness, and when you get to the next connector, take it apart and check your brake wires going both ways. Check the multi switch in the steering column. It is the first place where the turn signal, and brake wiring come together. Sorry I can’t be of more help. But hunting gremlins is a learned skill, which if you have a asic idea of how wiring works is just a matter of starting where you think it is most probably where they live, and systematically hunting them down
these should help, if for nothing more then the colors. I noticed that lights are switch to ground. Let me know if you need another page.
I'm gonna bet you have a wire to the brake lights with rubbed insulation. You can buy paint on insulation at a parts store that works and lasts. I'm also thinking your fuel pump is unrelated and failing. Heat opens a wire connection.
Did you find the issue? I have an electrical problem as well, but it's my reverse switch. I keep popping fuses when I got into reverse.
