Has anyone actually had their truck on a dyno? It would be interesting to see the HUGE numbers pumped out by these engines.

We will be bringing 6 trucks to our local drag strip on a "street legal" race night soon. Then we can post some 1/4 mile times.

It will be good for some giggles. The crowd wont know what hit em!

Sounds like fun. Don't you mean "Off-Road use Only" race night. LOL.

Well, for you south of the border, yeah, but for us, it really IS street legal drags. Haha.

You poor Americans. Lol. Of course, we cant have newer units, so that kinda blows in a way.

Crap! I forgot about that. I need to pay more attention. Like the government is really worried about our safety .

    Later,

Not sure yet. Most likely the 11th of July though. Thats the weekend we intend to have our grand opening, so it would fit nicely.

Can you imagine a dozen or so k-trucks ripping down the track? Hahaha It will be a blast.

You will win though Bles, as we dont have any other supercharged trucks in the area that arent automatics!

Back in the sixties [ that would be the 1960's ] I lived in Saskatoon. Like any other young, red blooded, teenaged Saskabush boy, I was car crazy, so I built a Meyers Manx fiberglass VW powered [40 HP ] dunebuggy. It was my very first car.

I took it to the drag strip, and they let me run it down the 1/4 mile in production class [ there were LOTS of Manxes built ... just none others in S'toon]. If I remember correctly, I ran in "O" class, and my "handicap" had me most of the way down the strip before the other car [ a BOSS MUstang ] could go. I wheelied for a bit, hit my top speed [ 64 MPH ] about 100 yds from the lights, and then proceeded to meander down the rest of the strip at 64 MPH.

The Mustang beat me by a bunch, but the crowd realllly liked my duner. And, riding around town in it always put a silly grin on my face.
    [;{)

I enjoyed that open topped VW duner all summer, then come September I drove it out to Vancouver and sold it.

My current ride is a 92 Daihatsu HiJet, and in some ways it reminds me of my old duner. HP is about the same, top speed is about the same, they are both very capable on and off road, but the Hijet has A MUCH BETTER HEATER.
    PLUS,
the HiJet also puts that same silly grin on my face when I take it for a spin.

PS: I know for a fact that Dune Buggies float ... BTDT ... but have yet to try and float the Hijet. That should be verrrry interesting .....

my favorite trip down the dragstrip was my 67 VW bug. all steel body, no fiberglass, everything included except the back seat (it never had one) running on a 6" slick, it went 11.90 @ 110mph. i was the underdog, it was awesome. in the off chance someone beat me, big deal they just beat a bug... but when i won, it broke their hearts to get beat by "just a bug". you should have seen the look on the face of the guy driving the new dodge viper when i left him at the line and all he saw was my tail lights =)

I was at a local street legal drag night on Wednesday - gotta admit, the thought of bringing the Sambar in the future did cross my mind. :D

    The Merkur did a pathetic 14.553 @ 98 MPH. 2.5-second 60 foot.

I called big brother today and ask him if he still had his dyno. Hmmmm, he still has it. Been sitting in storage for 2 yrs. He just moved his Yamaha Dealer to new location. He has other things on his mind with new building and new employees. But he said that is on his list to get out and crank it up in the near future. Its crazy to see a guy going 100/150mph+ and sitting still. When he had it installed couple of yrs. ago, they had to build a room and sound proof the walls. Showroom was a good 100' away from dyno room and it was still so loud you couldnt here yourself think.

just saw this, we put a 92 suzuki on a dynojet 284 chassis dyno and came out with 36hp and 36 ft lbs at the wheels. not too bad for a mintruck.

When I worked for a local Diesel shop (North American Diesel Performance), we had sponsored Black August at Casterol Raceway. During these days, we had a portable dino set up in the back of the shop for the bragging rites. We had everything from VW Rabbits to twin turbo Dodge 1 tons. You would be surprised what a VW can put out!

i actually wouldn't be surprised what a vw can put out :D

i built this motor (didn't have it built) to run the drags and drive the streets. 2165cc with 48IDA carbs. that means one 48mm barrel/butterfly and a 44mm ventury for each cylinder. the heads were extensively reworked with 48mm intake/ 38mm exhaust with triple chevy springs. we had to relocate the spark plugs and run a siamese seat to hold the valves. the cam was lifting about .670" at the valve. the red line was about 8200rpm, but i was shifting conservatively at 7600rpm at the track... it was geared low for the track and ran through the trap at 110mph & 7800rpm. that was over 200 horse power (vw motor, not a porsche or something, naturally aspirated, no turbo or NOS).

don't judge me by the crappy wiring... it was a salavage from a fire, you can see the burn marks inside the deck lid up top.
