I know there's a few english translated manuals out there but none of them have any useful info on the Daihatsu EF-GS engine. I'm currently looking for any info on the carburetor since I need to disassemble it to clean it and I don't really want to go all in with no info besides one video I found (it has no uninstallation or installation, just cleaning) and also anything about how to correctly adjust these carburetors.
My Hijet has the EF-GS engine. I checked all of my manuals and could find no information on the cleaning or maintenance of the carburetor. I watched some Moto Cheese videos on YouTube and he seemed to believe that the carburetors were very similar for all Hijet models in the 90's, and any differences were probably vacuum lines that could be plugged. He supercharged his Hijet and replaced the carburetor with a generic Japanese carburetor, installed jets until he got the mixture in the ballpark, and then adjusted the idle and run circuits. If my Hijet carburetor needed work, I might be tempted to buy a rebuild kit from Japan if none of the kei parts online stores in the US could help, but I might also be tempted to just buy a new identical carburetor from Japan to avoid the hassles. If I was importing a Hijet today, I'd get a 1999 or 2000 model with electronic ignition and fuel injection. Then again, my antique Hijet will probably still be running after the Carrington event or EMP takes out all of our modern electronic stuff.
