I was hoping to get some input on using a dash mounted switch to buy a little more leg room when I have the wipers on high I tend to hit it with my knee
Interesting. I get the desire. I am trying to keep things reversible, so it probably wouldn’t be my thing. I wonder if you can add a spacer to push it out? I have toyed with that as we are pretty tight there too.
I have found a few knob type wiper switches some have the washer function as well but they all seem to be 3 speed park/low/high
IIRC wiper switch in my sambar is park/low/high - is yours something different? Got link to the knobs you found?
Ford used a Off,Low,High dash mounted rotary switch in their option of electric wipers vs vacuum wipers in 1962 F-100 models. Used to own one. check out Antique Ford suppliers, should be able to buy switch & knob. They will be replicas but should function properly. Fred
I was thinking a rotary switch from a 1968+ VW bug. The wiring is what has me confused. Pull the steering wheel and run wires from the combination switch? Definitely not my area of expertise.
Should be able to access the wiring without removing the wheel, although removing the wheel will probably be easier to see and do what wiring changes you have to accomplish. Fred
Removing the wheel should give you access to contacts so you can map what colors of wire are doing what. Then you go into it. Knowing what wires you have to disconnect lower in the harness to relocate the switch. The dent side 73-79, Ford pickups had a variable speed wiper as an option. They show up on eBay, pretty frequently. Guys like me buy them to retrofit our older bump side, 67-72 ford trucks and Broncos. Google and Amazon used to have a huge library of old ‘Popular Mechanics” and similar magazines. The magazines of he late sixties and early seventies had schematics to build your own variable speed wiper controls.
