Dark black oil only 100k after last oil change?

Title says it all, I did my oil change a few weeks ago. Put about 100-120 kilometres on and checked the dipstick. Oil is dark, but there's nothing in it. No metal shavings, no goo or traces of coolant that I can see.

Is this a sign of something, or am I just being paranoid?

  2. How long was it before that most recent oil change? I wouldn't worry much about the oil being dark, but also there's a difference between dark and pitch black.

If it had been a long time before your most recent oil change, that new oil is probably still picking up deposits that were in the engine from the old oil. If you're concerned you can always take a sample and send it in to a lab for analysis, but I think it's worth giving it a bit more time.

Lets see a pic of the oil on a paper towel... oil turns dark quickly, but cant say without seeing it

If your engine is older and has lost some compression due to ring wear (lets face it, most of these trucks have well used engines), the blowby will make the oil darker in a short time. Mine gets darker over time too. I just change it once a year or every 30K km.
