While installing tune up partsI noticed the metal tubes protuding from the c.c. were completely rusted off. They are exactly the same diameter as a 3/4 inch plastic pipe .I know the pvc will melt, but has anyone jerryrigged something to connect the papper pipes to?
That paper pipe is a foil coated paper. You should be able to buy that at your local UAP/NAPA auto parts place.
Its a heat tube for preheating the intake air for cold starts and faster warm up. From the exhaust manifold it should have a paper like foil tube that should join to a plastic rectangle box that may or may not have a vacuum hose going to it and then into your airbox. If you live in a warmer climate like me (Texas) then they are unnecessary. even in colder climates they aren't that necessary unless you get into freezing temps but can help the thing warm up faster. I eliminated mine and did a snorkel so I can venture across water without sucking it up. I do more water crossings than dealing with the cold.
Copper or conduit would work. I am thinking of removing my manifold completely and making one from steel welded pipe! I will likely take a steel or copper T and put it around the outlet pipe and then drill and tape the T and put 3 bolts on each side to hold it off the exhaust!
I used JB weld and 1 1/4 to 3/4 copper reducer from Lowes then got a 1 1/2 inch 32 inch long and 17 inch long preheating tubes from Napa connected with hose clamps...... worked great. Napa offers black and silver pre heat hose and they may be special order.....black looks the best.
My 93 (DD51T) carry has two outlets at the catalytic converter, what is the second one for? I get freezing temps here so I want that system to work.
The hole on the right should be where the hose runs to the hose that runs into the airbox to heat up the carb in cold temperatures. The hole on the left should run to a hose that connects to the frame on the passenger side if it is a right hand steer. It doesn't fulfill a purpose that i know of.
