    1. Tonight’s project is to get some respectable sound into the carry. 6.5 in speakers down low with spacers sanded to match the angle of the door contours and 4 inch up top . Door sheet metal needed a little trimming to accommodate the 4 inch speaker . It seems like the door panel was set up for some type of speaker. The back side was perforated for easy cutout . The factory door grommets worked great for the speaker wire also . Speakers were cheap low profile marine Pyle . I’ll let you know how they sound shortly ..

Wow! Thats a lot of speaker. I just got some 4 inchers to replace the ones in my van. Of course when driving its kind of hard to hear the radio because of the engine noise from the rear of the van. Not really a stereo buff but I can tell my setup needs some tweeters and a bass box, the 4 inch speaker only have so much range I'm guessing.

Nice work on the wiring thru the grommets.

would you mind linking the speakers you used? i'm interested in adding speakers to my own carry and looking at some sizing that worked would be a good start.

I got my setup at Crutchfield. The speakers were regular product but the head unit was a closeout and costs less than a speaker haha.

In my 93 DD51T I used these Rockford Fosgate 4" ones in the cutouts in the door card and they fit perfect with no modifications other than removing the cutouts. Sound pretty good and get pretty loud for only 4" drivers

Wow, those Fosgate are 2X what my speakers go for. I wonder if they are that much better? Mine work ok but I'm also not sure the head unit is that great either. One reason I got the head unit was it had a CD player which on long trips was nice to have.

I do not like speakers in the door, so this was my fix. Made a bracket that bolts under the inside of the headrest bolts (passenger inside and driver inside) and extends up to the headliner. Shaped similar to the Pi sign. The uprights are 4" long, horizontal piece is 20" long. Bracket is made out of 1" x 1/4" flat stock, painted white. Mounted 2 Boss speakers with enclosures to the top (horizontal) piece. The speaker enclosures are 7.5" x 4.5" x 4" tall. This left enough room between the speakers for a 4" x 2" x 2.5" led dome light. Ran the wires between the seats then up the side of the cab. Covered the wires with 1" wide white pin striping material. For the dome light switch I used a $8 rocker switch from Amazon and installed it next to my axle lock switch. My stereo is a JVC KD-SX27BT with Bluetooth. It mounted perfectly in the hole left when I removed the stock radio. Speakers, stereo, light and switch were under $130. Took about 1.5 hours to install not including fabrication of the bracket. I wanted to mount the speakers right above the head rests but that only left about 3" from the top of my head to the speakers.
